Student's Last Day for Year |
Dear Parents and Carers,
We are mid-way through term four and are in the process of completing the 2019 year but also well under way planning for strategic improvements in the 2020. I am extremely proud to report that we recently received all our NAPLAN and PIPS data. The results indicate just how well our school is performing with standards reached well above similar schools and nearly all above the Australian average. This is a result of hard work and a tireless commitment to high expectations around quality teaching. I would sincerely like to thank all of the team that work here at Punchbowl as it is the team approach that has the greatest impact in this cycle of improvement. Thanks also goes to our parents for your commitment to our goals and your partnership in learning.
Upcoming Water – Based excursions
- Gr 3-6 Swimming Carnival 20th November
- LSSSA Swimming Carnival 29th November
- Gr 2 Water Orientation 4th, 5th & 6th December
- Gr 3-6 EOY Picnic 12th December
Please understand that there is an expectation that all students attend and participate in these events unless unwell. The Grade 3-6 Swimming Carnival, held at the Riverside Pool caters for both competitive swimming events along with novelty races in a wading pool. As a way of rewarding participation, this year we will be giving all students participating in the day a water slide pass. If students were unable to participate in the 3-6 swimming carnival (unless they were sick) we would assume they would not be able to attend the Grade 3-6 end of year picnic.
The Grade 2 Swimming and Water Orientation classes are in early December and are funded via our School Association. We began this program three years ago and it is an excellent way of introducing students to the Grade 3-5 Swimming and Water Safety Program in subsequent years. This is held at the Glen Dhu pool, which is specifically designed for learn to swim programs and is an even waist high depth.
Please remember that all permission forms need to be return for students to be involved in any of the above events. Students need to come to all swimming events with rash vest and sunscreen applied.
Esk Band Extravaganza Concert
A reminder to all our families and friends that the Esk Band will be performing in a combined concert next Friday, 22nd November at the Albert Hall. This has always been an amazing event that showcases our student’s musical talents. It also provides an opportunity for our students to perform in front of an appreciative audience as an orchestra.
Gr 6 Orientation Day –
On Wednesday, 27th November, public high schools are running Grade 6 Orientation day. I wish all our grade 6 students well in exploring these new environments. This is an exciting time, which is at times met with some trepidation but lots of excitement.
Dance Fever
On Thursday, 28th November, we have our grade 5 and 6 students participating in the Dance Fever production. They will perform in a matinée for school students and an evening performance for parents both performances are held at the Door of Hope. Our grade 5-6 students will have an opportunity to dance two pieces taught during lunch times by Miss Bodell. All students practise weekly and are very much looking forward to performing. The students have received letters about weekend and night practise already. If you have, any further queries please contact Miss Bodell.
I would like to thank Miss Bodell for all her dedication and talents in this area, teaching our students the dances. I am looking forward to watching this production as it is a highlight of the year.
Triathlon
Also on the 28th November, we have students involved in the Northern Triathlon at Devonport. We wish all the students the best of luck in the event and thank parents and support their support crews for ensuring Punchbowl has a strong contingent participating.
