Principal's Report

O'Donahue,-Ms-Elizabetha.jpg

Dear Parents and Carers,

Next week is the last week of the term and students will return to school on Tuesday, 23rd July.  On Monday, 22nd July our teachers and teacher assistants will be working with the Queechy Alliance schools engaging in a professional learning session on reading and following this teachers will continue moderating student work.

Next term I am pleased to announce that we will be welcoming Mrs Jacky Hartley back to our staff as she returns from maternity leave.  Mrs Hartley will be sharing a class with Miss Wells.  Miss Wells has decided to take a reduction in her load for the remainder of the year. We are sure they will be a formidable teaching team.

Mid-year Reporting

Student reports will go home today in a sealed envelope, teachers have spent many hours on these reports and moderated with other teachers to determine appropriate curriculum ratings.  This year, instead of individual curriculum area comments, the class teacher has written one comment covering these areas. We hope this gives parents & students a clear understanding about how the year has started.

NAIDOC Week

NAIDOC week celebrations are held across Australia each July. As part of this our students in Prep to Grade 2 are engaging in a range of culturally appropriate activities from the 1st - 5th of July. Key themes of this year’s NAIDOC celebrations being explored are the importance of truth and having a voice. Aboriginal parents from our school, Sarah Foden and Danny Gardner have kindly donated their time, knowledge and expertise to ensure students are well informed with Tasmanian Aboriginal traditions and culture. On Monday a flag raising ceremony to acknowledge the beginning of NAIDOC week will occur followed by our Prep - Grade 2 students visiting the Punchbowl Reserve to look for bush tucker and partake in yarning circles. Thank you to all parents who have kindly donated their time to help with this excursion. The remainder of the week will include other culturally diverse activities that relate to the cross curriculum priorities related to Aboriginal studies in the Australian Curriculum.

Grade 6 transition

Last week Mrs Frerk accompanied our Grade 6 students who are transitioning to Grade 7 in 2020. Different student groups visited both Kings Meadows High School and Queechy High School and joined in planned activities and experiences.  These transition opportunities are an important way to support our students in feeling comfortable about the next step in their education journey.

Happy Holidays

I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday break.  We look forward to seeing everyone again to begin a busy term 3.
